BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1997 7:00 P. M. I PRESENT: HELENE DEFOE, LIBRARY DIRECTOR ANTON D SIE FELD l CARLO D'ESTE CHARLOTTE FANEUIL MIMI MARSH GLORIA SELANDER II MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:. The minutes of October 14, 1997 were accepted as presented. III REPORTS: A. Library Director: Circulation for the mouth of October 1997 totaled 8,096 items. There were 3,381 transactions made to Massachusetts residents and 53 transactions made to out-of-state borrowers. M30Mi suggested that a talented person prepare a large graph to il- lustrate our growth, to be displayed outside of the library ry stating: "This is where we have come from; where are we going?" Capital Improvement Program: Helene explained that she had attended a Capital Workshop in Worcester on the availability of Capital Funding. The availablity of grant money for the future was discussed. Presently, there are a number of libraries who have been on a waiting list, who had applied two years ago. The Ma hpee Library dad not participate in that grant round since.the Mashpee Library was not at a point to be able to proceed; the Mashpee High School was still in the planning stages. Hopefully, within another two years there will be another grant round, and we will be ready to apply -for that. When Helene returned from that workshop, she seat the information to Bob Whrienour. He was very interested that there might be the possibility of money down the road. Helene invited Patience Jackson to visit the Mashpee Library to walk through the building with us. Patience is with the Board of Library Commissioners s their building consultant. 'Where are certain oteps which need to be taken before submitting an application. We want to make sure that we have accomplished whatever is required. Based upon the information gathered, Helene felt there was a good chance construc- tion grant funding might he available within two years. The feasibility study was moved forward to allow us to be ready for any application deadlines. Iv C OM UN ICAT IG A. M. Marsh reported that she had had a communication relative to proposed amendments re. the library and certification fees. Helene explained haat she felt that only applied to a new librarian or one who was new to the state.
