The staff had things well in hand for my return Since then,
much of my time has been dedicated to the Building feasibility Study. The Buildipg Committee was
scheduled to meet the week of my return to review the preliminary drawings of the building. The meeting
was postponed to the following week because Darlene Powers had been ill during my absence and needed
some additional time to complete die revisions discussed at the March 20'h meeting.
The design that makes the most sense for our site, our building requirements and budget is a two-story
design. Previously,we had discussed an alternate site across from the SeniorHousing Complex. John
Renz,Fields Point's representative, told us that site was no longer available. He mentioned a site available
across Rt. 151, near the Police& Fire Stations. The committee felt Uiat was a less desirable location Mian
our current site, and felt we should work towards making the current site work.
There were many features that the committee liked about the concepts Powers and Company brought to the
April 19ffi meeting, but we felt the building was somewhat larger than we needed or could afford. My
assignment was to look at various pans of the library program to see if Powers and Company could shrink
the layout of the building without eliminating any of the services we wish to provide. I mel with Darlene
Powers on May 5°i to review drawings and concepts that could achieve this shrinkage without
compromising the design and functionality of the building. She presented several alternatives that I will be
reviewing with die Building Committee
I attended the Massachusetts Library Association Conference on April 25h and 26"at die Sheraton in
Hyannis. One presentation of particular interest was a panel of library directors who have completed or arc
presently doing new buildings or expansions. The panel presented some very good advice of pitfalls to
watch for or opportunities to take advantage of It would be interesting to visit some of these sites and
speak to them individually.
During the month of April, $680.76 in overdue fines was collected.
