On October 4d' I met with Chris
Jacobi, a local art teacher, who is helping me with the planning and implementation of
some of the programs. A Focus Group Coffee Hour was held on October 20`" inviting
community members to voice their opinion for the types of library programs they would
like to see offered, and the most convenient timing of these programs. The attendance at
the Coffee Hour was 12 adults. Children were invited to participate in story4ime and craft
activity while the adults talked. Under the direction of Chris Jacobi and the assistance of
.junior volunteer, Megan Reichel, 8 children created a mural entitled "Hands Across the
Borders" representing file inauguration of lite grunt project.
Chris Jacobi and I also planned the first alter school craft club 1'or 4d' graders and up, The
4-week session, enabling students to create their own piflata, was scheduled to begin on
October 19'h. 1 lowevcr, the program was postponed due to a lack of registration. Since
that time, a sullicient number ol'children have requested the program and I am in the
process of rescheduling with Chris Jacobi.
I made two visits to the K.C. Coombs School in October to encourage the first grader
students to obtain their library cards prior to their field trip to the library. On October 16d
I visited 2 classrooms and spoke to 38 children. On October 23 d I visited another 3
classrooms and spoke to 60 children.
The first grade classes visited the library for a tour of the Children's Room and a
storytime. Three classes were scheduled at different times on October 3`d for a total of 63
children. Two classes were scheduled on October 24h for a total of 38 children. The
three remaining fust grade classes are scheduled to visit the library in November.
Family Storytime was held at Mashpee Commons for Oktoberfest on October 7d'. The
attendance was approximately 25.
Two local preschools visited the library this month. On October 4d'the Kids Klub
Preschool brought 23 children on a field trip. On October 25h Rainbows and Rhymes
brought 22 children for a field trip.
The Children's Librarians Roundtable meeting was held in Harwich on October 27'h.
Most of the discussion centered on the Family Literacy Event scheduled for November
5'h at the Cape Cod Community College.
