Mashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Alla 02649
Circulation figures for the first half of FY 2005 totaled 62,934 iters. This is e
substantial increase over the same time period last year. At that time: 58,023
iters circulated, giving us a gain of 4.911 items. Some of that is certainly due to
being able to restore Friday hours. In the recent circulation statistics from
CLAMS, only sic libraries on the Cape and Islands were busier than Mashpee.
All of them are much bigger buildings than Mashpee. Falmouth, Bourne, Orleans
and Harwich were substantially busier. Brewster and Nantucket were less than
2,000-items ahead of Mashpee while Brewster is about 3,400 items more. The
library was closed Fridays for the first 13 weeks of the fiscal while we brought the
staffing back to full levels. If we had been open, an average Friday circulation of
261 iters would have brought us up to Brewstees level., That figure would be a
slow day for a Friday. At the current pace, vire should circulate about 1151 g
items, which would be an all time high for the library.
I have been putting many hours into the building grant. At this point, l would
estimate Sheldon and I have completed about % of the application. Some of
the remaining sections are heavily dependent on information the architect will
supply. At this point: Stewart Roberts is refining the interior and exterior design
of the building. During ray vacation, 1 asked Bridget and Janet B to review the
plans of the Reference, Young Adult, Children's and workroom areas of the plan.
They attended the building committee meeting in my absence to provide
.
feedback to the architect and the committee on how well those areas of the
library could function as designed. Mr. Roberts took that information and revised
r the layout. The revision was presented at the meeting on January 4 th. The
revision was a big improvement over the first design but still needs a few
modifications. Bridget and Janet were extremely helpful' in reviewing the plans
and suggesting changes. We have a meeting on January 11 'r which should
g g g
reflect the comments received on the .
