IIlashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Ma. 02649
Circulation for February 2005 totaled 9,102 items, which are 1,258 items more
than the sane time period last year. This is 16% more than February 200 4.
Year-to-date circulation is also up 10% over last year. The library has circulated
1,309 sterns thus far this fiscal year. circulation has recovered strongly with the
return to full staffing and the restoration of Friday hours. The library lost several
days to snow storms this year but-is significantly ahead in transactions. I would
say that this demonstrates that the library has recovered from the cuts in hours
from the previous staff reductions.
As you know, the library's grant application was hand delivered on February 8th.
1 have just received a checklist from the- BLC asking for some additional
information, which hes already been provided in our gent application. I arra in
the process of checking with Beth Wade, Grants Manager for the lIBLC. l
believe the letter was an oversight on their part. The items they are looking for
are attested copies (from the Town clerk) of our Town Meeting Grote and Debt
Exclusion vote. If they do not a copy ofthe votes, I'll will forward thea to them as
soon as possible.
I mentioned at the last meeting that the staff had all filled out position analysis
questionnaires for the town's classification study. Jared Clark, who is conducting
the study, has conducted follow-up interviews with most of the staff. Janet Trask
and I will be meeting with him on March 17th to complete the library's portion of
the interviews.
On March 3rd, I attended an all day workshop the town had arranged for
department heads. ,Jerry Bruno, a management consultant that the town has
used for previous workshops, conducted a session on Understanding Behavioral
Style and how it affects your working style. There are four basic behavioral
styles; Dominance D , Influencing i , Steadiness s and compliance C .
Most municipal employees tend to be B or C. The department heads found the
workshop very worthwhile and recommended that other staff have a chance to
attend a session. We have also had a lot of turnover in the last year, so it
provided an opportunity to interact with many of the new department heads.
