Mashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Alla 02649
Circulation for ,June 2005 totaled 11,055 items, which is 692 items more than the
same time period last year. This is a 6 over the sa!'1"ie time period last year.
Circulation for FY 2005 totaled. 121,484. That figure is 12,568 ,more than F
2004 and represents the library's highest circulation to date. Comparing this
year to last year, circulation was upl2%overall, In July 2004, circulation was
13:098. As you can see, the amount of yearly increase was like adding an extra
summer month to the library's workload.
As you have all probably heard, Mashpee did very well in the library construction
grant round. We had hoped to be In the top twenty and are actually number 12
overall. That works very well with our existing time frame. Seven libraries were
notified that they received provisional grant awards. These libraries will have sic
months to get their local funding in place and to accept the provisional award.
One library, Cambridge received a split award; $6,651,647 noir and the first
position on the gaiting .list for another $4,046,848. Total funding available for
awards was $21,508,811.
Funding the waiting list gill-cost another $68,469,665. The General Assembly is
corking on a $74,000,000 bond bill. Passage of that amount will be more than
enough to fund the gaiting list, When passed, libraries will receive funding in a
phased manner, basad on waiting list position. once funding becomes available.
We still have to develop final designs, bid the project and complete the fund
raising campaign. We have a very full year ahead of us to achieve those goals.
Jane Dolan, library Building committee member, has been working on a grant
application for $95,000 to the Kresge Foundation to plan an energy efficient
library. A tremendous amount of work went into gathering the data and preparing
the application. The application was mailed-the last week of,June. Decisions,on
applications are made within ninety days of submission. ,Jane is to be
commended for the time and effort she has spent preparing the grant application.
I will keep you informed of the grant's progress.
We have recently begun using the CLAIMS Acquisitions module. Bridget took the
necessary training at CLAMS in May and has begun setting. up vendor accounts
to allover electronic ordering. This is different from the electronic ordering we were
already doing. Bridget creates a catalog record when she planes an order for
each item. The online catalog displays and on order status and patrons can
place requests before we actually have the item in hand. Using Acquisitions was
one of the goals in the library's current 'Long Range Plan.
