l' ashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Il ashpee, .Ma 02649
circulation for April 2096 totaled 9,180 items, compared to 8,993 items last April.
Fear-to-date circulation is 106,639 items.-This far, we are running 6% ahead.of
the transactions- for last fiscal year. .Just two years ago,' our. total yearly
circulation was-1-08,916. We still have two months-of business that-will be added
to this month's tally.- This will certainly be the busiest, year yet at.the-Iibrary.
We had two items on this May#s Torn Meeting. on the Special Town Meeting
.Warrant, we had a request for additional funding for the library's utility bills. Fire,
Police, DPNH and the Library were included in a request to rake up an
anticipated shortfall in the utility line items budget a-.year ago. - With-the increases
in- .energy costs, the Town realized that there would be deficits in all these
5 departments. The library received $3,000 in the Selectmen's energy Budget. To
date: we have spent'$2;100 of that on April and flay utilities. ,The projections for.
those -figures were developed in January, prior to the recent.-spikes in oil prices.
Joyce has suggested applying to Fincorn for a Reserve Transfer if the. $3,000 is-
insufficient.
On the Annual Town Meeting Warrant, the voters.-unanimously voted to change
the children's Librarian to a full-time position. The change will go into effect July.
1 .. We will need.-an article in Fall Town Meeting to -request additional funds in
the materials line item. Joyce had made a reduction in the amount requested
when - she removed the children's Librarian's additional- hours, from the
operational budget: The shortfall will affect the fibrary',&certification because we
will not-meet the-16% spending requirement. Now -that the position, has been
approved, we will need to-request about $6,909 in the Materials Budget to remain
in compliance with the I IBLC certification standards. Articles will be-due in early
July. I will prepare an article for your approval for the ,dune meeting.
The Public Forum that Joyce scheduled on April 25th vent very smoothly. It was
not as well attended as she would have liked .because of conflicts with several
other events. It was televised so perhaps voters, were able to see it that gray. 11e
had no questions about our article and the results.-at.Town Meeting show it was
not a-controversial iter. ,Joyce was pleased with the concept and intends to do it
again, but with more awareness of other events when picking the date.
The Fund Pulsing Committee is making final arrangements for the Mermaids Art
and Signed Book Auction that will.be held this Friday evening, May 19th at the
coonames ett Inn. Tickets are still available at the Library or can be purchased
at the-door the night of the event. I hope you will attend if possible to support the
committee's efforts
