i
i
11shpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Msh , Ma 02649
Circulation for June 2006 totaled 11,836 items, compared to 11.055 items
the previous ,dune. Circulation for FY 2006 totaled 128,467 which i % greater
5
than last ear's total of 121,484. This is the highest yearly circulation the library
has ever had. Mashpee finished with the sixth highest circulation of any CLAIMS
library. As discussed-at a prior meeting, l did a sampling of the number of patron
visits. l used sic typical weeks to get an average of visits per week. Using this
method gave an average of 2,023 patron visits per week. Multiplied by 52 weeks
ave a yearly total of 105,196 patron visits for the fiscal year. Many times,
children have turned the meter around, and those creeks have under counted
visits. By-using an average from six complete weeks, we have a more accurate
measure of library activity.
Last month, I mentioned that Joyce Mason Was going to ask the FinCom for a
transfer to cover the shortfall in Energy bills' at the library. As you remember, l
had estimated an additional $3,000 would be needed to cover the increase in
energy costs and that was included In an article at Special Town Meeting.
Unfortunately, energy cost continued to rise and that amount was insufficient.
} FinCorn refused her request so she asked the Board of Selectmen for the
transfer. They did approve the additional funding. I requested $11,018 in the
line item for IFY 07, compared to $8,300 in Fly 06. Hopefully that increase will be
enough depending on the continued rise In oil prices.
Nancy Soderberg called my attention to some out-dated information on the
library Fame Page. I updated it and added information on the new downloadable
E audio books which are noir available through the library. I appreciated her
comments and it was helpful to rye to see the website through fresh eyes. if
anyone else notices outdated information,in the future, please let rye know so I
can make corrections. '
We have put up posters and brochures to announce the recorded Books E
Audio books. A short article appeared in the Cape Cod Times announcing their
arrival..- The site is easy to use. Hopefully, it will prove popular with our patrons.
