lashpee, Ma 02649
Circulation for April 2007 was 10,497 items. This month's circulation exceeded
last April's by 1,317 iters .4%). our ear-to-date total of 1.131185 items
is 6% ahead of the same point last year.
I was very gratified by the actions taker' at Town 'Meeting..The library's budget
a approved as su r fitted end rt cl Ive passed uinanimously. Question One
passed b % of the voters who took the time to vote on Saturday. That was a
larger percentage than the first-debt exclusion. That percentage is impressive for
a non-contested election. The Town Clerk had predicted about 1,000 votes would
e cast- Saturday aid she was extremely, accurate in herrojection. Many- of
those who came out told the volunteers that they had come especially to vote for
the library. l' like 'to express -my thanks 'to the Trustees, 'staff, Friends and
volunteers who have put so.many.hours into getting us to these votes and to the
voters who are solidly behind a.neer library.
Staffing eras'affected by the.vote on the budget.. Bridget Bontrager will be going
from-30 hours per we.ek to 35 hours per wee k on, July 1 . A ter porarry sum mer
circulation Assistant position was also approved. `his will be the first time the
Ilbr ry has had additional staffing during the summer. The person will work 1
hours per'week and will mostly cover afternoons and Saturdays. The staff'found
last summer to be the 'most difficult yet. Any absences were Keenly felt by the
remaining -staff. The. additional.-staffing should rale this a much easier and
pie sa t'sum er. I have already.revie redthe job description and advertisement
with Personnel.. We are acting on interviewing and selecting very quickly so we
have om.ephe on board July Vt..
SEIVILS has once again sent lefteM to member libraries to summarize the value
of regional services.each .1 i nary-has used in the past fiscal year. In Mashpee,s
case, it amounted to.$1189576.70 in services used that care to us at no'cost.
detailed summary, outlines the value 'of services that ll shpee used but some
highlights were $72,805.20 in delivery services, $26,292' in online database
access, $9,907.50 discounts on collection material purchases and $1,808 in
continuing education workshops,
I received an. email from -the M LG asking that- libraries on the 'construction
waiting list sure the date.of lay 31 st for a meeting at the Ashland Public Library.
The purpose of the 'meeting Is to.provide information about the status of the
Library Construction Bond Bili and for libra es to share information about ghat i'
happening in their communities.
