Date: August 1, 2007
To: Helene B. DeFoe
From.: Janet Burke
Re.- Monthly Report i
The month of July has seen a lot of activity in the Children' Room as 274 children have
registered to participate in the Statewide Summer Library Adventure,,"'Catch the Beat at
Your Library"". Children commit to read 20 minutes per day for at least 5 days a week
and record their time on a reading log. when children bring their reading log into the ..
library, they receive a small prize for their reading effort and for visiting the library.
This summer the Mashpee Public Library is participating in the Statewide' online
Summer ReadingProgram. I have set up three progmms online; one for Kids, one for
Teens and one for Adults, The advantage of the online program is that I am able to offer
summer reading program for teems and adults, something Haat has not been available in
the past. Also, children who are not able to visit the library can still participate in the
online program from home. We have 50 children registered online, 21 teens and 9 adults.
Participants log their reading time(children)or number of books(teens and adults)and
are able to post reviews to share with other participants. I think this online program is
wonderful offering for our patrons, and has the potential for greater participation i
