Mashpee Public Library
o Box 657
Iashpee MA
Circulation February was 8,475 items. This compares with last year's circulation
of 10, 2. Year-to-date circulate 79,256, compared to 90,228 items circulated
during the same a'period last year. I've included a ranking of downloadable
audio books through February also. As you can see, Iashpee has the second
F
` highest number of transactions among participating libraries.
I collaborated with Barbara Notarius on a grant to Cape Cod Youth
rnpowerme' nt Initiative. The grant is in the-name of the Friends of the Ubrary
and}will be used to train their Board in grant writing and to fund young adult
collection materials and consultant fees to train staff and Friends to work with a
teen population. The grant was targeted for At Risk Youth although the
materials and future programs would be open to all teens. We should find. out in
April if our efforts were successful. The amount requested is $20.000
Progress continues on the new library. All tasks are on schedule. The contractor
began assembling steel framing structure on March 2d* Already, you can see
the basis shape of the building corning together. The Planning and Construction
Committee has invited the community to stop by on March 12 to sign one of
the roof beams. It will be .whitewashed and people are welcome to sign their
manes to the beam with a sharpie. At fo . ., the beam will be hoisted into
the roof structure. Patrons are very excited to see the progress and comment on
the daily changes when they visit the library.
The building subcommittee continues to meet bl-weekly. We have just begun to
review interiors and furnishings. A small group (Helene,, Catherine and Shelly)
will work on reviewing the furnishings examples presented by the architect and
making recommendations to the subcommittee. Stewart will order samples or
direct us to libraries that have the items we are interested in. We will be able to'
see ghat the times actually look like and try out tables and chairs for durability
and comfortU,
On Larchr Janet Burke Janet Trask and I participated in ea
r r tRead Across
America with the Quashnet chooL We were inkited td read to classes, along
with other community representatives, I read to a fifth and sixth grade class and
spent some time talking to them about the new library.
