� {. - <br /> Maria Cortez, a library patron who moved to Mashpee from Chile three years ago, has <br /> been working with nye to provide a Bilingual Story Time for school age children. While I <br /> read stories in English, Mafia reads the stories In Spanish. We also play bilingual games. <br /> We held two bilingual story tines in July. On July 9 , there were 9 participants. On July <br /> 23', a representative from Regal Cinemas carne the library to promote the opening of the <br /> new movie, J Force. She brought two free movie passes for a raffle, and movie trinkets <br /> for all of the children. At this story time we had 11 participants. <br /> Peter and Ellen Allard, award winning children"s recording artists, performed at the <br /> library on July 7 . We had hoped to have an outdoor performance on Jay Street, <br /> however, the rainy,weather did not cooperate. Fortunately, I was able to use a vacant <br /> storefront. This event was sponsored by the Friends of the NW hpee Library and attended <br /> y 85 participants. <br /> Iinornan Space was an excellent science demonstration for families that was held at <br /> Christ the King Parish Hall on July 1 . Unfortunately, the Community Pictiic and <br /> Fireworks were rescheduled for the sane date, which probably affected our attendance. <br /> This evert was sponsored by the Friends of the Mashpee Library and attended by 85 <br /> participants. <br /> 5 <br /> The 4-H Coastal Explorer was parked at the library on July 2&from 0:00 to 3:o . The <br /> marine life exhibit was sponsored by the Friends of the Mashpee Library and 171 people <br /> took advantage of this educational opportunity. <br /> The Elbows, a children's rock band, performed at the library on July 21 . It was planned <br /> for an outdoor concert on Joy Street; however, once again, the eater did not cooperate. <br /> Fortunately, we were able to use ari empty storefront. This event was sponsored by the <br /> Mashpee Cultural Council and attended by 150 people. <br /> Montana l ushers, Real Hero Sled logs, visited the library on July 2 '. This event, held <br /> at Christ the King Parish Hall, was sponsored by the Friends of the Mashpee Library. <br /> Harry and Dela parked in front of the library for an hour before the show. They 99.meeted <br /> and greeted' with about 50 people to introduce them to the dogs and promote-the event. <br /> The hugely successful program was attended by 175 people of all ages. I was most <br /> impressed by the multi-generational appeal of this event—there were families with young <br /> children, adults with no children, and many teens and tweens—a difficult crowd to attract <br /> to the l ibrary1. <br />
