I
Maee Public Library
.P 0 Box 657
asee MA
Circulation in December was 8,812- items, compared with last year's
circulation o 8,196.
Year-to-d-% rc atio was , of pared to
61,789 vitei s last year. This, year exceeds last year by 2,893 or 4%. We
circulated m/762 downloadable audio books from July through December.
We started tagging books.with the new 3.M system early in December and
are 0% through the adult collection, Upon completion, we will start the
children's collection. We have 7,000 items in storage, and will tag them at
the new library. We plan to move the conversion station to the Events
Room in the new library next ionth to begin tagging the stored items.
Staff coverage continues to remain a concern. I reed two employees on
band 30 minutes before opening to turd on computeir. ,, open tie
circulation desk and ready the building for the public, Conversely, staff will
need time after the official closing to make sure all patrons are checked
out computers r closed down and all patrons have exits the building*
f !!!
Even in the small- building, clearing out the stragglers takes time. The size
of the building will 'to more time to make sure the second floor, restrooms,
children's room and other areas of the library have been cleared. Given
the nature of the public, staff will be delayed leaving to clear out the
stragglers and meed to be paid for this time.
There is no flexibililty in the budget to have staff come in early or stay
date. To cover the before and after times withinthe existing budget, we
1
need to adjust hours of
operation and -reconfigure'staff schedules, so we
are paying people for time worked. This is what I am proposing
Mondays aid Wednesday 10.00 AM to 5:00 P -1 hour each)
Tuesda s aid Tb ursda s noon-to x".00 PM I houreach)
Friday noon to 5:00 PM nochoange)
Saturday .9:00 Am to 1:00 PM no change)
his mould &educe hours froom 1 to 37 per weekS Under new
accommodation policy from the MLC, libraries are certiiedfthey meet
Bo o or more of the standards. state aid -awards are reduced for less than
00 compliance.-{Our. group requires 40 boors for fullcertific-alsJoini. W
would meet 0% of the hour's standard, If we meet the 100% collection
standard % on library collection- expenses), we would qualify for
7,5 of our full award and remain ce i ied. We are not that busy after
7:00so the inconvenience to the public will be minflamal.
