Mas Public Library
64 Steeple St
P o. Box 657
Mashpee ISA 02649
508-539-1435
Circulation for the month of August 2010 totaled 21,072-items.That exceeded last year's total of 12,881
by 8,19 . items. The monthly total increased over the same time period last year. Circulation for
the first two fiscal months is ahead of FY 2009. once again, we were the third busiest library behind
Falmouth and Harwich. Last summer, we were the sixth busiest library. These figures only measure
items that went out.we also handled heavy returns so the workload was really doubled. Adding in the
August returns,we hand led 42,532 items total. Returns are a less visible part of the job since u e'don't
normally ally traM k and report on that aspect. we also issued 383 new library cards during August.Since we
opened in April,we've issued 1,605 library cards.
The first part of September has slowed down a bit from the pace of the summer but business continues
to be shady. we aro seeing more students corning in to do homework, computer usage remains strong
and there has been a big demand for the quiet study rooms. we usually have more requests than we
can accommodate. 5eptemberwill be the first full non-summer mo-nth of circulation. In May and June,
we closed a number ofdays because of the ongoing mechanical problems.Sincethe ceiling
replacement,those days are behind yrs.
I-co m pleted the review of the meeting roo rn policy. I reviewed Falnno th's policy and mod it to
meet our local circumstances. A copy was sent to the trustees to read and review prior to the
September meeting. I left the fees section undone so we could discuss and decide what fee structure is
appropriate at the meeting.
Mike Richardson carne by to discuss the volunteer coordinator position we had advertised. Mike had
previously offered to help but we were waiting to see if any community members might be interested in
the position. We had only one person interested and he felt the scope and time commitment were-too
much for after he reviewed the job description. 11e felt that Mike was probably too busy to be the
volunteer coordinator but since he is-still willing, we're going to try it. Bike has Power Point skills which
would be useful in orientations and training of new volunteers. Mike and I had a good conversation
about the position on Friday and he'll be meeting with Janet Trask when she returns from vacation to
work out the details.
4 "
