Kids Klub Preschool visited the library on October 1't. In the past, I used to visit the preschool
once a month. However, since opening the new building I needed to eliminate my outreach
programs. bids Klub is now planning to visit the library once a month which is actually a lot
easier for me. There were 23 children that enjoyed the story time.
I attended a workshop in Lakeville on October 13 thSarah Sogigian and Susan Babb, Youth
Advisors for the Massachusetts Library System, presented a S u mm r Reading Program
overview. Because of the consolidation ofthe regional library systems and the cut in staff, we
no longer have a ""Statewide Summer Reading Program"'. The Statewide Summer Reading
Program was unique to Massachusetts and a labor-intensive endeavor. Instead, Massachusetts
has joined the Collaborative Summer Library Program, a ration-wide summer reading program.
Massachusetts was the 49th stag to Join (Texas is now the only stag not participating). With
. sponsorship from the Boston Bruins, IMLs was able to pay the yearly dues for every
Massachusetts library for the summer of 2011. Libraries maybe required-to pay their own dues
in the future. Each children's librarian received a mammoth summer reading program manual
and an order form for free paper products: bookmarks, posters and reading logs. There are
also in entiv s available for purchase. The there for the 2011 Summer Reading Program is
travel.
