Mashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, MA 02536
March 2011
Director's Report
Monthly Statistics
-Circulation for the month of March 2011 totaled 13,865 items. That exceeded last year's total
for February 2010 of 7,524 by 6,341 items. The monthly total continues to increase over the
same time period last year, consistently 40-45 % higher.
- Circulation from July 2010 thru March 2011 totaled 131,655 - an increase of 41,865 items over
the same period(July 2009 thru March 2010).
-Mashpee continues to be the 4 I busiest library in CLAMS.
-Use of the Quiet Study Rooms- 81 uses
-Use of the Events/ Conference Rooms—44 meetings/programs
Contractual Workers—Update
All 6 contractual workers have been a tremendous help to the Staff and Library operations.
Unfortunately for the Library, Kathy Mahoney, who worked the lion's share of the Reference
Desk hours, left at the end of the month to become a consultant and that has created a significant
whole on the Reference Desk schedule. One of the other contractual employees has picked up
some of her hours and a new hire has submitted the paperwork, but has not been summoned to
sign her contract at Town Hall.
Ouiet Study Room Policy
Helene and I had formulated a "quiet study room" policy/guidelines for the 2 rooms upstairs
based on the use pattern of the first few months. Several people have challenged it recently. One
wants to be able to "skype" in there, supposedly while taking a class. Another is a Vocational
Rehabilitation Counselor who would like to be able to reserve the one of the rooms almost every
week for 2-6 hours, in advance of our 1 week reservation limit. Her organization's "Career
Center" in Falmouth will be closing in June.
Conference Room/Meeting Room
In addition to the regular programs/ group meetings, the Library also hosted among others:
parenting workshops, a SEED 2- part workshop for small businesses sponsored by the Chamber
of Commerce, Cape Cod Red Cross Save-a-Life program, Mashpee High School Girls
Basketball Banquet, and DARE Family Foster Parents Meeting. Scheduling of programs/
meetings extend out to 6 months in advance. Requests continue to increase from an ever-
widening geographic pool of applicants.
