r <br /> • <br /> i' <br /> Mashpee Public Library Board of Trustees and Friends of the Mashpee Library <br /> Memorandum of Understanding <br /> Revised September 6,2012 <br /> Following will constitute an operating agreement between the Friends f the ashpee Library(Friends) <br /> e Mashpee Public Library Board of Trustees(Trustees). It will stand until and unless it is modified by <br /> mutual agreement of the Friends Executive Board and the 1 lashpee Public Library Board ofTrustees. <br /> Both the Trustees and the Friends acknowledge the following statements: <br /> The administration ofthe Mashpee Public Library is the responsibility of the Library Board of Trustees, <br /> which is the only body with legal authority to set policy for the library. The Trustees are policy setters, <br /> have oversight of resources and finances, set strategic plans,and determine the mission of the library. <br /> The Friends organization is vital to the growth and prosperity of the Mashpee Public Library. <br /> The Friends is an independent 501 3 volunteer organization with responsibilities to its bylaws, <br /> its members, the Board of Trustees, the Library Director, and the citizens of the community. Its <br /> basic mission is to raise both money and community awareness for the library, to assist in volunteer <br /> recruitment,to support library services, and to present programs in coordination with the Library <br /> Director. <br /> Both the Trustees and the Friends approve the following agreements: <br /> The Trustees agree to include the Friends in the long-range/strategic planning process, and to share library <br /> goals and initiatives with the Friends at the beginning of each fiscal year, followed by diSCUSSiODof how the <br /> Friends' resources and support might help forward these goals. <br /> The Trustees agree to supply the Friends with an annual "wish List" indicating the anticipated needs for <br /> Friends' support. Fiduciary responsibility to Friends members and donors will be of primary concern to both <br /> the Trustees and the Friends' Board when making decisions. <br /> The'Trustees agree to publicly acknowledge the contributions of the Friends, as is practicable, as a means of <br /> promoting the Friends, recognizing their efforts, and attracting new members-which will ultimately result in <br /> more funding and community support for the library. <br /> The Trustees agree to assist the Friends, when feasible,with promotional materials for the local media and <br /> on the Library website, and to accept payment in the library for Friends' promotional materials such as <br /> cookbooks,water bottles, book bags, and the like. <br />
