Town
OceSeleetn
M 16 Great Neck Road Nt.
AULE Mashpee, Massarhuseff-s 02649
Tekp&ne(508)539-1400
R IN1NMD1ATE RELEASE FaX 539-1403
Town of Mashpee Implements Reverse 911 system
As of 12 Noon, Thursday, August 22, Zoo , the Town of Mashpee placed into service
Comm interactive notification system"REVERSE 911".
Reverse 911, developed by an Indiana company, allows our Fire and Police departments
and other town officials to eah every hone in a particular area, and then deliver a
recorded message. The system will record a message from the Fire Chief, Police Chief or
other key officials and automatically send it to whatever group of phone lines the
department selects.
During Hurricane Bob, members of the Fire and Police departments had to go door to
door to notify residents of the coastal flood plan of the impending storm. With Reverse
911 coastal residents can be given a specific evacuation procedure message over the
phone, speeding up the notification process.
"We basically have down loaded the Mashpee telephone hook into a computer," states
Fire Chief George W. Baker. Work is now proceeding to form specialized lists to enable
the town to rapidly recall personnel and keep specific groups informed during the time of
a disaster or vide scale emergency.
This system is geographically specific giving lave enforcement officials the ability to
notify neighborhood groups and business clusters of urgent crime issues, putting diose
areas on look out. Additionally, this system will give a direct local tie into the Amber
Alert System.
Mashpee was able to purchase this system with funds allocated to the Mashpee Cable
Advisory Committee for community wide technology improvements. The cost of
materials and installation totaled $32,000. Mashpee is the first town on Cape Cod t
have such a systerm
Over the next month we w1 be sending a series of test messages to inform our citL*zens o
the systen poll businesses for additional contact numbers and begin administrative
review of specific procedures to be followed for the use of this system.
For more information contact George faker, Fire Chief 508-539-1454
Joyce M.
