This month our topic for <br /> discussion will explore various current and emerging wireless. technologies and the <br /> application alternatives for municipalities. Wireless technology -has expanded In usage <br /> and, design and has become more affordable for local cities and towns. <br /> Infrastructure'and LAN wireless solutions are of particular interest. Wireless products and <br /> services can now serve ars possible solutions for network access for municipal structures <br /> where cabling is impractical, undesirable, or cast prohibitive. Also, LAN solutions are now <br /> available that are secure and cost effective. GIS applications are pushing us towards <br /> affordable mobile and re'mote systems that offer wonderful application options and <br /> services that before now were expensive and unthinkable. <br /> Anthony Rodrigues, Director of Information Systems in Maiden, Ma., has a great deal of <br /> expertise and knowledge In wireless technologies and will be sharing this information with <br /> our group. The presentation will reveal methodologies, strategic planning, implementation, <br /> and network capabilities that can be utilized. Cost implications, network complexities, <br /> security and reliability are all obstacles preventing some local governmients 'from taking <br /> advantage of today's advances. Anthony _will review arnd provide comfort that these <br /> concerns can be accommodated in a-successful deployment.
