I
1 Network Server and Software Upgrade t compliment the Wireless ackb ne.
When all Town Hall employees login to the Network to start their day, they login to a Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 Domain. The Domain is called MASHPEENT. The Windows NT 4.0 Domain
I
I
Controller is responsible for validating each and every user's login name and password and is
responsible for Access Control and Authentication to Network Resources. We also use Microsoft
Exchange . for corporate email. This runs on a Windows 2000 Server. Each town hall
employee has an Exchange email account which is created from their Windows NT logia account.
Access to the Kapinos.Assessing Application, the Ge TMS Permitting Application, and the
ecTrac Application is rade based on Windows IVT Security since these applications reside on
File Servers that are also members of the II ASHPEENT Domain. All Windows SIT Domain
{ Printers are also controlled by a Print Berger fu'nction which resides on this carne Windows IVT
Domain Controller. Finally, this Windows NT 4.0 Domain Controller functions as the Symantec
Anti-Virus Corporate Edition Central Console which is the Master Anti-Virus Berger that oversees
the other Syr antes Arai-Virus Servers and pushes Virus signatures to each and every pc at
Town Hall. Unfortunately this Windows NT 4.0 Domain Controller's useful life is corning to an end.
The actual machine which runs as our Domain Controller is a clone Intel Pentium 80OMhz PC
with 512MRAM, no RAID hard drive redundancy or power supply redundancy. It is not a server
built to be a server, but a PC that is running (not just as a server), but as a Domain Controller
which runs the whole Town Hall Network. Furthermore, the NT 4.0 Operating System became
available in 1997 and Microsoft has retired it as of 2004. Microsoft's policy is they will no longer
support Windows NT 4.0 Server} NT 4.0 Workstation, and Microsoft Exchange 5.5 as of
December 31, 2004. We need to get off of it in a hurry and create a new Microsoft Active
Directory domain built on Windows 2003 running.Exchange 2003. This is basic software
obsolescence., and our time has come.
Here is a breakdown of the cost to buy 1 new Server to function as a Windows 2003 Domain
Controller, 4 Windows 2003 Berger Licenses (for the new Domain controller, existing server
called Shakespeare, the Exchange 5.5 Server, and an existing server to function as a backup
Domain Controller), 1 Exchange Berger License, 75 Client Access Licenses (GALS)to connect to
any number of Windows 2003 Servers and 75 Client Access Licenses {GALS}to connect t
Exchange Berger 2003, and an outside company to help Bruce and l do this very large network
migration on off hours.
Dell PowerEd Server $2,683
Windows 2003 Server 4 @ $464 each) $1,856
WindowsExchange 2003 OS $451
i
Windows 2003 GALS @ $18.60 each) $1395
I
Exchange 2003 GALS @ $43.08 each) $31231
Technical Support and Installation $0,300
TOTAL.$18,916
