Dear Cable Advisory Board Members,
The Mashpee Public Schools TV Studio would life to respectfully submit a proposal to the Cable and advanced technology
Board for$26,904 to support broadcast developments to the MHS TV Studio. The studio is extremely grateful for your past
contributions.
As you know there are several aspects which male up a broadcast studio.Because of your generosity, we were able to
upgrade our Broadcast s iteher, Station automation system, and post production editing equipment
This Proposal entails the purchase of two cameras. Camera usage in this department ranges from in studio sh ots to live
shoots on the athletic field and meetings held in various building through out district. The department currently has 2 functioning
studio cameras(Panasonic WV-F565)purchased in 1991. The studio cameras are analog, tapeless and require a studio deck to
capture any media making them unpractical to use outside of the studio the repair costs exceed the entire maintenance, upkeep and
supply budget of$3,500 annually. we also have two camcorders(Canon L- used to record and broadcast live events OLItside of
the studio. Their format is standard definition and medium is mini DV. The mini DV format is being replaced by SDHC cards on
new model cameras as they requires zero moving parts in turn using less battery and less costly to repair. Developers found that
multiple formats can be placed on an SDHC card to support all workflows. In addition, the capability to record on ars SDHC card
will drastically reducing the post production process as the media file is"ready to edit"directly after being slot versus recording to
mini DV with real-tune logging and eliminating the purchase of mini DV cassettes from the supply budget.
This proposal includes two J C Y-HM700 cameras with appropriate accessories for studio integration.JVC was chosen
for a combination of reasons: Workflow-J C formats their media so 1t can be imported directly into final cut from SDHC cards
eliminating real-time capturing from the post production process. The HM7 o model was chosen for its rugged design as it will be
used by students in a learning environment. The HM700 model is commonly used as a rental item by highly regarded rental
companies such s: Access AVNH,The Camera Company,and Laumic.It features a canon 14x lens,XLR outputs,progressive
D . (Further specs can be viewed at prov .corn)
Yes,the HM700 will record and output in 1080p(HD)however will also record and output in standard definition for total
integration now and should the studio upgrade flown the road.
OBJECTIVE: To incorporate the advanced technology of the HM700 camera with our studio exposing students to high definition
formatting, aspect ratios, frame rates aligning with past upgrades for future advancements.
BENEFITS: Improve workflow, increase productivity, newest formatting and frame rate capabilities, enhanced picture quality.
Examples of productions include: School committee meetings, finance committee meetings, sporting events, town meetings,
commencement ceremonies,student productions,concerts,plays,filmed lectures courses.
The opportunity to present this proposal as well as your consideration-is greatly appreciated.
4
Sincerely,
Arthur Joia III
Media Axis Director
M shpee Public Schools
i
