- - - Update-on-Cable-Licenl -Pro rens- iitinu - - - - --- -. _
0 Mary Lou Polumbo,Executive Director of Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, approached Joyce and Mar
rt
Lou would like very much to be the director of the studio here in Mashpee, along with her Chamber
director hat to give her a full-time position. Joyce asked Mary Lou to put a proposal together for the
MCAT Board to look at. Joyce said that Mary Lou thus we could do a studio in concert with Mashpee
Chamber of Commerce. lith .Lou has not submitted a proposal yet.
Possibility to lease current studio. Comcast agreed to continue to service us for one year from signing of
contract until we have studio on our own and that will be a side letter of the contract for Mashpee only.
0 Comcast agreed to a capital budget with some up front money for us to create studio/non-profit
organization. A part of our capital money that we'd get each year would have to probably offset the cost o
the studio:
0 Comcast increased our revenue to 4-1/2%vs. %.
0 we are at point where we told attorney Peter Epstein to draft the contracts to bring to MCAT Board and
Selectmen for review.
0 Peter Epstein to meet with Comcast on the customer service issue this week, and Joyce hasn't heard from
Peter yet.
Comcast agreed to a capital budget.
Joyce said Peter Epstein hoped to get a draft done by this week and Joyce will send it out to MCAT Board
4
by e-mail when she gets it.
Joyce said the next thing MCAT Board and Joyce will have to start working on is whether we want to create a non-
profit organization to do our cable studio or do we want to share a studio. Joyce said she is of the belief that you
don't get the undivided attention when you do a shared model but at the same time she is not sure she has time,
energy or knowledge to put together our own studio. Joyce said she is not sure we have the expertise to do our own
studio.
MCAT Board asked Joyce about Wry Lou Polumbo's experience. Joyce said Mary Lou has experience 'in
licensing and producing process. She would be head of this non-profit organization if we go that way. Andrew .
Eliason commented that it would be great if you had someone who could also do Part of what Bill Shea did. Joyce
said she will probably return to next MCAT meeting to ask hove the Board wants to proceed. Joyce said Sandwich
would like very much to partner with Mashpee.hpee. Andrew Eliason said Lolita Mo ray often asks; are we getting
enough out of the studio to make it worthwhile? Joyce said Mary Lou Polumbo feels strongly that she could do
some exciting things not only to promote Mashpee(which is what the Chamber is to do)but would benefit the
Town as well s it is probably worth hearing what she has to say. Janes Chisholm commented that combination is
terrific because her role is to market the Town as a Chamber member.
i
Joyce said the non-profit organization would be a separate organization under the Town of Mashpee and wouldn't
have any affiliation other than Mary Lou would be part-tine director of chamber and part-trine director here of our
studio if we go that way.
Meeting at MashM High School
Andrew Eliason reported that it was a very interesting meeting at the High School with Arthur Join,Bob Tischler,
David DelVecchio,,and Andrew Eliason in attendance. Andrew said they are keeping the video room very nice and
orderly.- They talked about Kodak switchers and the devices that might allow us to send video and audio signals
` back to the head end from places in town where only an Internet connection would be required instead of special
cabling such as what we have from Dere to the head end for the modulator signal which comes out of this building
and the modulator signal which comes out of the school.
Andrew Eliason'said Bob Tischler was unofficially representing Corneast. He was very much in agreement that
this is a doable ging. Andrew thought that Bob Tischler was indicating that if we bought the equipment out of our
budget Cornea. t would maintain it at the head end. He said Falmouth is doing it.
Andrew said Arthur Joia was under the impression that Corneast owned the Town's LAN, but it was ilashpe's
decision to let David f elVecchio proceed with his concept that is mostly wireless. This approach has been
successful and cost-effective.
2
