MASH EE CABLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES UTES FEBRUARY 12, 1998
PRESENT:T: An re tr Eliason, Douglas Young, Edward Deviser
ABSENT: Lew Schwartz, Illilie Pietrowski
ALSO PRESENT: r. Lincoln DeMoura, superintendent of schools,
Mashpee, glary O'Keefe, Joyce Mason
NEW BUSINESS
Dr. DeMoura wanted to talk to the committee to share hopes and concerns
about the needs of the school- system in regards to the relicensing process. He
wanted to talk about the discussions that had previously been held with
Continental cable regarding the connection between the high school and the
Quashnet Schools. Pat Farrell and .doe Hennessey could have been people
involved in the original discussion. Mr. Eliason has heard of such an agreement
between continental cable and the schools. Mary O'Keefe was never involved in
any discussion regarding it, and is not aware of any commitment. There is no
agreement that she is aware of. Mrs. O'Keefe felt that if they agreed to it, it
would have been in writing. These discussions were never in writing. Mr. Eiiason
suggested the possibility of negotiating with Media one which portion they can
help with or do and thea complete it with contract work. Mr. Ellason and Mrs.
O'Keefe will see if it will be possible for this to happen before the relicensing
process.
Dr. C eMoura would like the committee to consider the school department
when preparing the new license. The Quashnet Schools and the Coombs School
have needs. There is a link between both elementary schools now: but not to the
high school. They have a technology grant from the state and it is the hope to
completely wire the three elementary schools. The primary technology focus over
the next few years is to link all schools together. The total cost for a link between
the elementary schools and the high school is about $22,000. Dr. Der oura will
submit a list of the schools equipment needs to the Comite.
Joyce Mason will ask at regional greetings what other communities are
looking for in their school systems. She distributed examples of surreys that
other towns are using. The possibility of sending the surveys out in tax Mils was
discussed. Mr. Eliason will talk to Gordon champion to see if the surveys should
only go to subscribers. Ms. Mason commented that there could be people who
would like to subscribe and therefore would want to be involved in the survey.
Mr. Eiiason suggested to talk to people in community about assistance with
tallying the surveys.
