Mashpee Planning and Construction Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday,August 9,2005
Ma►shpee,Ton Hall Meeting doom 2
Committee Members 'resent: Ken Marsters,Janice Mills, Irving Goldberg, Joe Krait, Steve Cook,Twin
Shackett,and Eugene Snmargn.
Audience: Kathy Bulpett,Mashpee Enterprise.
The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.
Election of officers
Chairman—Iry Goldberg motioned to nominate Ken Marsters as Chairman ofthis Committee; Devin Shackett
seconded this nomination; and it was unanimously passed.
i
Vice Chairman—Iry Goldberg motioned to nominate Gene Smargon as Nice Chairman of this Committee;
Devin Shackett seconded this nomination; and it was unanimously passed.
Clerk—Kevin Shackett motioned to nominate Janice Mills as Clerk of this Committee; Iry Goldberg seconded
this nomination; and it was unanimously passed,
Committee Duties and Responsibilities
Where was a brief discussion as to understanding what responsibilities and duties fall under the Planning and
Construction Committee and which would fall under the Town Manager's responsibility under the scope of
Public Building Maintenance. Consensus was that the Committee should go through lists of requests submitted
to the Committee; prioritize the requests; and for those that fall under the DPW/Town Manager area o
responsibility refer those requests to Town Manager to be handled.
Discussion
Highlights of topics briefly discussed;
The Committee had lists of some of the maintenance work that needs to be done at the Police Station,
Town Hall,DPW, and the Schools. Ken will ask Joyce to follow-up with the outstanding departments
and ask them to get their maintenance needs to this Committee within the next week. In the me ntirn ,
the Committee will do a walk-through at Police Headquarters to see the condition of that site. Then at
the next meeting the Committee will review all lists and prioritize order in which needs should be
addressed, as well as reviewing budgets to deterrmine which maintenance sterns are covered in the
budget. When needs are prioritized, Joe Krait may be abl to bring in crew to do the work which would
be cost-effective.
Town needs a good maintenance p 1 an to be in place.
In future, whenever building projects are undertaken,be certain planning includes staff support that will
be-needed for the new facility. This 1s critical. No sense fin building larger, improved fae)lity If Town
doesn't have ample staff to keep it running.
In building municipal building, determine whether or not generator needed.
Suggestion made by one of the members that maybe this Committee could took at the High School and
see if pert ap s there is a way to organize to separate age groups bett err.
