The value of this function is that there will be someone on <br /> board at the very beginning who will be responsible for working closely with the staff of the library and the <br /> LBC to ensure that the plans for the new library adhere to their wishes. <br /> Mr. Gilbert reported that Steve Cook, a member of the,LBC as well as the Planning and Construction <br /> Committee, has been exploring geothermal possibilities as a means of providing alternative energy to the <br /> new library building which would result in long terra energy cost savings to the library. <br /> Fundraisling Committee. Sheldon Gilbert explained that the fundraising committee is under the <br /> auspices of the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit organization. The LBC is limited to corning up with the <br /> design, location and specifications of the new library. The Friends have organized ars active committee, <br /> who are working on brochures, events, activities for the purpose of generating understanding and public <br /> support for the new library. <br /> Sheldon Gilbert concluded lois remarks by stating that the LBC looks forward to working hand in hand with <br /> the new Planning and Construction Committee and welcomes their input on the project. He then <br /> entertained questions from the audience. <br /> Questions. <br /> 1. Gene Smargon inquired as to when the LBC anticipated proceeding with construction of the new <br /> library. Mr. Gilbert responded that he anticipates It will be early 2006 when the 1 000,000 fundraising <br /> threshold will be reached, which will allow <br /> the architect to begin work on design plans. <br /> . Gene Smargon also asked whether the LBC had taken into consideration the issue of adequate <br /> maintenance staffing for the new library, a problem now facing the new Senior Center. Sheldon Gilbert <br /> responded that the plan Is to extend the children's librarian part time position to a full staff position. <br /> Staffing projections have been taken into consideration, and it is anticipated that there will be no more <br /> than one additional full time position needed. Budget requirements for this position will not begin until <br /> 2006, fiscal year beginning July 1, o .' <br /> �. the question was asked about w her a the llbra ►would relocate during the construction of the new <br /> building. Sheldon stated that here were three possible choices as to how it will be handled. one, <br /> Mashpee Commons may donate space; two, temporary facllifies may be purchased: and three, any town <br /> buildings such as schools, which may have space available, may donate space. The amount of space <br /> anticipated during this interim period is 4,000 square feet. This item is included in the budget for the <br /> library project. <br /> . Kevin shackett asked whether the job description for a Project Manager could be expanded by the <br /> Town. Sheldon responded that-the requirements for the job are set forth in state regulations. <br /> copy of the Quitclaim Deed for the library property will be provided to the Planning and construction <br /> Committee. Gene Smargon thanked Sheldon Gilbert and Bonnie Barrett for an excellent presentation <br /> and wished them good luck in raising the necessary funds to Proceed with the project. <br /> Steve Cook added comments on his research Into trying to achieve a LEER rating for the new library. US <br /> Green Council certification levels are rated by points, and the LBc would like to reach the lowest rated <br /> level of 26 to 32 points.. The thought behind it is that the LBC hopes to male it a long terra, sustainable <br /> building which will be less taxing on the Town in th'e future for heating costs and maintenance.
