Top and bottom shelves are often used for the overflow. This <br /> rran ement is difficult for seniors and patrons with limited mobility. ' <br /> 0 There are several areas that are out of the Griew of staff. <br /> a Inadequate Deference Area with no reference desk. Patrons must ask for assistance at <br /> the circulation desk to be served. There is no privacy to conduct a reference interview <br /> with patrons. <br /> • Inadequate Number of Computer stations. All stations are far removed from the <br /> Deference area. The available Internet stations are constantly in use and in demand <br /> making it difficult for individuals to conduct .in depth online reference searches at the <br /> same computer station. <br /> 0 Inadequate Seating. Patron seating is very limited} especially in the young adult and <br /> children's service areas. <br /> 0 Wholly inadequate space for cultural programs such as concerts, art shOws and <br /> lectures. <br /> 0 Lack of after-hours availability of meeting room.- It cannot be secured from the rest of <br /> the building. <br /> • Insufficient Space for patrons to line up for checkout and returns. The circulation <br /> area is too close to the front entry. <br /> o No Info a-ma i n Desk. There is no room for an information desk so patrons with a question.inust <br /> limit in the same queue patrons checking out. <br /> .Describe the adequacy or inadequacy of existing space, fbe age of the existing facility, possible <br /> safety arra health issues including code violations, handicapped access, energy efficiency and <br /> other relevant factors, which justify the reed for a new improved or expanded facility. <br /> Inadequate Workroom r om for staff. The library workroom is undersized for the number of <br /> staff and volunteers involved in technical processing. Staff working at one desk often has <br /> to stand tip pnd move out of the traffic pattern to !et another per-son pass through to the <br /> rpt room. <br /> The heating system is inefficient. The library spent$9,-800 n utilities (electricity, gas <br /> and water) in FY 2004, out of a total e:peiise budget of$73,000m <br /> The building poses a fire hazard. 'A small fire in the boiler was caught and <br /> extinguished in 2000 by the Fire Department. The library sound have burned to the <br /> ground had the staff not discovered the fire before closing. The library was closed for <br /> days for lash of heat while repairs were rade. The wood framed building has no <br /> sprinkler system <br /> The staff restroom-is *1n the wo rk roo m. There is no privacy for those using it or those' <br /> working .nearby. The room is so small that the sink is outside the restrcor 1. in the <br /> workroom. <br /> . <br /> T Dere is no shipping and receiving area for incoming.deliveries.
