The Comnulttee would also research and
advise the Board of Selectmen, and the Board of Health as applicable, on possible improvements
in recycling for 'Implementation by the Torn. This advice would be made through and in
conjunction with the DPW who would ultimately be responsible for implementation-
Membership should include the following:
One representative from the Board of Health,
One Mashpee business owner;
One resident of a multi-family dwelling; and
Two residents-at-large.
The involvement of the Board of Health is important as the Board is responsible for the licensing
of private trash haulers whose business generates approximately 3 of the solid waste to
nnag e
disposed of annually. The involvement of the bus, iness community and multi-family dwellings is
also necessary as this is the segment of Mashpees population which currently has a lower
recycling participation rate. The increased participation of businesses and multi-family dwelling
units is imperative because of the Department of Envirommental Protection's ban on certain
items from disposal in the waste stream as well-as its requirement to increase recycling.
To start, a meeting schedule of every two months is recommended. This schedule could be
adjusted to rare or less frequently as needed. In addition, a flexible meeting tine such as late
afternoon or early evening would be considered for convenience to prospective members.
