i <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> LE� Lit <br /> ecycling Committee <br /> tee <br /> Wednesday, June 12, 2002 2# <br /> Minutes 02 <br /> JUL <br /> Members Present: Nikki Descotcau ; Chuck Gasior; Glenn Santos <br /> Others: Catherine Laurent, DPW; 'Fora Delprey, Stratford Ponds <br /> quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:10 p.m. <br /> RECYCLING UPDATE <br /> Catherine Laurent reported that that the participation from Mashpee residents at the <br /> Lipper Cape Imo.' Collection held on,dune at the Mashpee High School almost <br /> exceeded the total participation at six collections held last year at the Massachusetts <br /> Military Reservation. <br /> Catherine Laurent also advised the Committee of the grant received from the MA DEP <br /> for a closed-top roll-off. This.roll-off will be used to collect paper/junk mail. Delivery is <br /> expected this summer. Glenn Santos indicated that Barnstable may be amenable to <br /> swapping a closed-top roll-off for an open-top roll-off <br /> COMMITTEE COALS <br /> The Conmrnittee agreed that a goal should be to increase recycling at condominiums and <br /> other multi-family properties. The approach m .y vary depending on the current disposal <br /> methods for the properties, that is, curbside or a common disposal area. Tom Ielprey <br /> indicated that Stratford Pond has a common area.. <br /> Glenn Santos reviewed concerns expressed by condominiums to the prior Recycling <br /> Committee. The primary concerns were with having adequate space to accommodate <br /> recycling containers and the potential added cost. The Committee agreed that an <br /> important step in increasing participation in condominiums is to demonstrate the cost <br /> savings of recycling versus disposal. <br /> The Committee discussed selecting a few condominiums for a pilot program. Tom <br /> Delprey V1111 contact the association at Stratford Pond. Nikki Descoteaux will contact the <br /> association at the Ileus. <br /> r <br /> The Committee discussed education of residents about recycling as a goal. The Town <br /> also received educational materials in the grant from the DEQ. <br /> The Cormrlittee discussed increasing recycling efforts at the schools as another goal. The <br /> high school is currently the only school recycling paper/junk rail. All other Ton <br /> buildings have started recycling paper.
