l
Recycling Committee
Wednesday,July 17, 2002
Minutes
Members Present: Nikki Descoteaux; Chuck Gasior
Others: Catherine Laurent, DPW
quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
CONDOMINIUM RECYCLING
N. Descoteaux contacted the four associations at the legs. Three responded who
represent a total of 67 units. All have private trash pick-up through One Point Curators.
Recycling is not offered. Each association has a shed for collection of trash. The pick-up
frequency varies seasonally as some owners winter elsewhere. Their concerns with
recycling were the added cost and the logistical problem with rentals.
C. Laurent will contact One Point to determine 1f they offer recycling services to their
customers.
Torn. Delprey was going to speak to the association at Stratford fonds. C. Gasir will
contact him about his findings.
SCHOOL RECYCLING
C. Laurent will.contact the new superintendent to schedule a meeting on establishing a
recycling program at all the schools. She will contact N. Descoteaux and C. Gasir with
the meeting date.
RECYCLING UPDATE
The Committee received the mailing on recycling funded by the DEQ'. N. Descoteaux
suggested including in any future mailings the fact that the recycling are at the transfer
station is open to any Mashpee resident.
The closed-top roll-off for the office paper/junk nail collection has been delivered.
Signage has been ordered. Residents will be informed of the acceptance of paper/junk.
mail through the cable station, the newspaper, and posters. The Committee suggested
mailing a postcard to residents also. C. Laurent will investigate the cost. The Committee
also suggested comparing single stream collection of paper (newspaper, magazines, and
paper/junk mail) to the separate collection ofeach material. Single stream would b
easier for residents. C. Laurent will check with hauling destinations as to their
capabilities for separating loads for marketing purposes.
