Recycling Committee Meeting Minutes April 2 , 2003 Members present: Glenn Santos,Nikki Descoteaux,.Charlie Gasior Others: Catherine Laurent, Mary Keleher The meeting began at 4:00 P.M. The meeting minutes of the February 19 and March 19, 2003a ting s wereapproved. G. Santos asked C. Laurent if the redeemable items at the Transfer Station would be offered to different groups. C. Laurent would like to organize a meeting about 1t. She will advertise in the paper so different groups can attend the meeting. In Barnstable G. Santos signs groups up on a first coxae first serve basis. The groups are allowed to take the redeemable items for a one-month period. C. Laurent is looking to do a similar sign up in Mashpee. N. Descoteaux handed out a report on optional recycling outlets in Mashpee for items such as redeemable bottles and cans, plastic grocery store bags, wire hangers and packing popcorn. This information will he included in the Mashpee Supplemental Recycling Information handout. In business recycling C. Laurent suggested that once the Committee knows the business community is interested in recycling days for businesses the Committee could put together a program and present it to the Board of Selectmen. C. Laurent and C. Gasior will work on setting up a meeting on business recycling with Lee Jean Pierre from the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce. The Environmental Coalition is interested in working with the Recycling Committee to help encourage people to recycle. They would like to work on the cost of recycling and show people that there is a savings to the town when someone recycles. C. Laurent created a spreadsheet on the savings from recycling in 2002 to give to the Coalition. She handed out copies to the Committee. C. Gasior suggested adding another column for net savings. C. Laurent will update the spreadsheet and forward a revised copy to the Coalition. C. Laurent gave Nikki Descoteaux some of the Household Hazardous Products Collections posters. Nikki will post them at various locations throughout the town. The next Recycling Committee meeting will he held on Wednesday, May 21, 2003. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
