TO Mq
Recycling Committee 'F twe'ASHPEE
Meeting .i u OWN CLERK
June 2 , 2003 03 OCT
91d
Members present: Glenn Santos, Nikki i es of au , Charlie Gasior
O
tl crs: Catherine Laurent, Ed Barer
The meeting began at 4:00 p.m.
'E. Baker began the meeting by discussing his review of recycling in the Town of ,
Maslip e. In his comparisons with other town's F elc.hertown, Lakeville ille and C hasset ,
which are pay as you throw/drop off towns, Mashp e's recycling rate appeared to be
lower. In cost comparison with recycling and trash, . . Baker feels that if all the recycled
materials were coni.brned with the trash the Town would save money.
The committee pointed out that there is a difference in hauling costs between E. .Baker's
figUres and the conii-n i.ttee's figures. E. .Baker has 178.83 -for his total. hauling cost
and the corn.mi ttee has S 13,0 0 0.00. The comm itte explained that E. Baler didn't figure
in the payments for rec clabl.es.
'E. Barer suggested the corn.mittee have all their figures 1n order before going to the
Selectmen. C. Laurent said we don't need to look at items such as the operation of'the
transfer- station and -1 PW staff time. The only thing we're looking at 1s whefl a trailer
leaves the Transfer Station, what's the per ton cost? whether it's trash, glass, plastic etc.
: . Ba.l er- loops at the transfer station as a fixed cost and the co.nini.rttee loops at more pure
numbers.
E. Baler's personal. optnion is that the ' epartment of Public Works shLIld be running
the Transfer Station and that a pay as you throw program should be incorporated by the
town.
The next .> ecycling Committee meeting will lie held on Tuesday July 1.5, 2003.
The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
