1 Yt N y� Recycling Committee tee Wednesday, 11 ar h 17, 2004 .: Minutes Members Present: Chuck Gasior;Nikki Descoteaux Others: Catherine Laurent, DPW •quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.. A notion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the meetings of February 11, 20 . The motion was approved unanimously. MIXED PAPER The Committee discussed a one-yeas pilot program for the combined collection ofjunk mail/office paper, and magazines/catalogs. Newspaper, which has a higher value, would still be collected separately. The paper market remains high and the number of other communities commingling paper is increasing. The Committee agreed that reducing the amount of separation would make recycling easier for residents. The pilot program would demonstrate if this increased participation. PROMOTION of RECYCLING PROGRAM Nikki compiled a list of organizations to whom the Committee could make a presentation on recycling. She will prepare an outline for the May meeting. Chuck communicated with Jani'ce W lford, publisher of the M'ashpee Enterprise. She had no objection to publishing a column oo- o words) on recycling periodically. She was also arnenable to hosting a show on her cable program"Focus." Chuck will draft a column for review at the next meeting on the financial benefits to the Town of recycling, as presented to the Board of Selectmen. The Committee will brainstorm on possible topics for a column and for a show. PAYT Catherine distributed more information on existing PAYT programs in to similarly sized corrnmun'ties. DEP is sponsoring several upcoming workshops on the topic. The Committee discussed the equity of a PAYT program, specifically hove to include residents with subscription trash service. Chuck will contact the IEP PAYT "expert" to question him on his experiences.
