Recycling Committee <br /> Wednesday, November ] , 2006 <br /> Minutes <br /> Members Present. Nikki Descoteaux, Chuck Gasior <br /> Others: Catherine Laurent, IP <br /> quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at :oo p.m.. <br /> PRIVATE HAULERS <br /> No response has been received from the hoard of Health concerning their regulation <br /> which requires private haulers to offer recycling to customers. The Board will be <br /> renewing licenses for haulers soon for 2007. Chuck and Catherine will meet with then. <br /> 2006 TONNAGES <br /> The tonnage of trash collected at the Transfer Station to date in2006 is decreased in <br /> comparison to this time last year. The tonnage of general recycl bles is approximately the same. Fewer permits have been sold as'more seasonal presidents purchase single trip <br /> passes. <br /> CURBSIDE COLLECTION <br /> Selectman Don Myer has requested an estimate on curbside collection of trash and <br /> recycling. The estimate for collection is approximately$11412/household/month. other <br /> costs would remain unchanged such as the transportation costs to.SEMASS and tipping <br /> fees. The Transfer Station would still have to be open, though not necessarily the five <br /> days currently. The question on how to pay for the collection is unresolved. Options <br /> include an enterprise fund where residents pay a fee or through taxes. <br /> RECYCLING PARTICIPATION <br /> Nikki discussed methods td increase participation in recycling. Ideas included Recycling <br /> "Buddies" where a neighbor may collect recycling from an elderly resident or a"Contract <br /> for the nviromnent"where residents and/or students pledge to improve recycling 'n their <br /> ho us eho lel or to reduce waste. <br /> HOLIDAY RECYCLING <br /> The Committee discussed recycling and waste reduction Over the holidays. Nikki will <br /> draft an article for publication in the Mashpee Enterprise. Information on what can be <br /> recycled at the Transfer Station (gift wrap, boxes, cards, etc.) will be publicized. <br /> The meeting ended at :15 p.m.. <br /> Respectively submitted, <br /> Cthermne Laurent <br />
