a I <br /> F f <br /> { <br /> Recycling Committee <br /> Monday, February 4, 2008 ' <br /> Minutes <br /> 5 <br /> Members Present: Nikki Descoteaux, Chuck Gasior <br /> Others; Catherine Laurent, DPW <br /> A quorum being present, the rneeting was called to order at 4:00 .m.. <br /> 2007 TONNAGES <br /> The tonnage of trash collected at the Transfer Station in 2007 decreased slightly from <br /> 2006. Recycling amounts slightly increased. i <br /> ' <br /> RECYCLING COLLECTION <br /> { <br /> Residents can now recycle#347 plastics at the Transfer Station. The Committee <br /> discussed decreasing the separation requirements. residents are being asked to separate <br /> plastics between three bins. Catherine will talk to AAA recycling about either collecting <br /> all#1 and 42 plastics together or collecting#147 together. She will also analyze the cost , <br /> f commingling other recyclbles. The Town is paid-for most recyclable . if <br /> commingled, the Town might have to pay a ti 1 g fee. The Committee and Selectmen , <br /> would have to determine if recycling participation would increase sufficiently t.0 justify <br /> the lost revenue. ` <br /> EDUCATION <br /> The Committee discussed designing a postcard to mail to all property owners. The <br /> postcard could reiterate the availability ofrecycling for all residential property owners, <br /> not just permit holders. Nikki will look into having a graphic designer donate her.'-, <br /> services, Chuck and Catherine will email Nikki information to include on'thepostcard. T <br /> The Committee also discussed offering no-cost "recycling' only"permit for property <br /> owners. <br /> EARTH DAY <br /> Earth Day is April 22. The Committee discussed hosting an event at the schools.an.d' <br /> sponsoring paper-shredding clay. Catherine will get more information n Beth ides. <br /> The meeting ended at 5:15 p.m.. , <br /> The next meeting will be March 1 , 2008 at 2:0p:m.b <br /> Respectively sub fitted, <br /> Catherine Laur <br />
