Recycling Committee <br /> Monday, September 22, 2008 Minutes <br /> Members Present: Nikki Des oteaux, Chuck Gasior <br /> Others: John Brown, Sheldon Gilbert, Catherine Laurent, DPW <br /> quorum being present, the meetm* g was called to order at 4:00 p.m.. <br /> CONDOMINIUM RECYCLING <br /> Shelly Gilbert explained the recycling program implemented in Stratford Ponds. Inc and <br /> group of other volunteers presented a recycling plan to their Board and received <br /> approval. Information was mailed to residents and then the volunteers visited every <br /> resident personally. Bins from the DPW were also provided. Previously, the property <br /> had four -yard dumpsters with no recycling. Collection was three dynes per week. <br /> Under the new plan, two of the trash dumpsters were replaced with -yard durnpsters for <br /> commingled recyclahles. Trash collection was reduced to twice per week. Recycling is <br /> collected once per week. Shelly estimates 0-75%of residents are participating, though <br /> additional education is needed based on his inspections of the dumpstcrs. One last <br /> follow-up visit will be conducted. Overall, the program has been successful and resulted <br /> in a 25% savings in trash disposal costs. <br /> John Brown updated the Committee on the recycling efforts at Southport. -A final <br /> decision has not been made by the management company but their initial reaction was <br /> support. If implemented, a 6-yard durnpstr would be placed in a central location for <br /> collection of commingled recyelahles. <br /> HAULER RECYCLING <br /> New Seal ury recommended Cape Waste and Allied Waste to their residents at their <br /> annual meetings. Both had the most inclusive recyclingprogram and did not stipulate <br /> P � <br /> 100% participation. <br /> The Committee discussed the lack of enforcement of the Board of Health regulation <br /> rewiring haulers to provide recycling collection with trash collection at a single price. <br /> Catherine will request that the Committee be placed on the October 22nd Board of Health <br /> meeting for discussion. <br /> RECYCLING <br /> Catherine reported that over 100 tons of general recyclales were collected at the <br /> Transfer Station during the-month of J l r. Unfortunately, the number drop ed August. <br /> The next Recycling Committee meeting will be n October 11, 2008 at 4:00P.m..
