Recycling Committee
Thursday, September 16, 2 010 Minutes
Members Present: Sheldon Gilbert, Chuck Gasior ,
Others: Marion Baker
Jon Leavitt
Mike Richardson, Board of Selectmen
Catherine Laurent, DPW
W
quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 4:05 p:m..
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the minutes from the August 4, 2010 was deferred to' the next meeting.
August Tonnage/Single Stream Update.
The August tonnage information from.the Transfer Station was di tributed. Recycling
amounts increased by 19% during the first eight months of 2010 as compared to 2009.
There was no change in the amount of trash collected.
i
Dis us ion of Education Program
The Committee reviewed the education program. All program activities/items have been
completed with the exception of events in October and November. The goal of
decreasing trash and costs was not realized. The Committee agreed to provide an update
to the Board of Selectmen en t their meeting of September 27. A discussion on the next
step toward achieving the goal of reduced trash/costs should occur. One other question to
be answered is whether the Transfer Station should be self-sustaining where 100% 6f
costs are paid by users. ,
The Committee discussed possible alternatives to the current fixed permit, .Curbside
collection and PYT are two options. Curbside collection could be through the Easton
model.where the Town identifies a preferred hauler, but each individual homeowner
contracts for service and pays the cost. with both curbside collection and PAYT, the cost
per household will exceed the current permit fee.
The Committee will meet again after the Selectmen's meting.
The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m..
Respectively submitted,
Catherine Laur
