Recycling Committee <br /> August 31, 2011 Minutes <br /> Members Present. June Levy, Sheldon Gilbeirt, Marion Baler <br /> Others: Jon Leavitt <br /> Catherine Laurent, DPW <br /> quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.. <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> The minutes of the August 18 1h meeting werepP roved unanimously. <br /> 4 <br /> PAYS' Discussion <br /> } <br /> The Committee discussed the impact of annual permit price on trash disposal and recycling. The <br /> Selectmen have proposed increasing the price each year so it more accurately reflects the cost for <br /> operation f the Transfer Station. The Committee noted that the nnual permit fee in Bamstable i <br /> $150 n their recycling rate is even less than Mashpee's.. <br /> The Committee discussed and agreed to move frvard with developing a PAYT program for <br /> presentation the Selectmen. The Committee also discussed conducting a pilot for up to 3 maths <br /> with 1 families t gather actual data and feedbackn PAYT. The participation group uld have t <br /> be representative of the Town's demographics. The participants would be interviewed before and after <br /> the pilot. Catherine will check with DEP and waste Zero on their experience with pilot programs. <br /> Single Stream Educational Campaign i <br /> The Committee discussed slogans to use on a banner acrdther advertising to promote the single <br /> strum program _ "It costs you nothing to recycle," "Recycling is free" `'People notice if you recycle" <br /> "'Recycle—It's free". 'The consensus was to use the last slogan. <br /> School Recycling Education <br /> DEP offers a program to schools to promote recycling—the "Green Team." The High School <br /> Environmental Club or National Honor Society might be interested in assisting with an educational <br /> campaign. <br /> Business Recycling <br /> Mike and Catherine met with Mary Lou Palumbo from the Chamber of Commerce. She offered t <br /> include information or links on their website or distribute information to their members through email <br /> blasts. It may be beneficial to communicatedirectly with the two larger commercial properties, <br /> M.ashpee Commons and South Cape village, to discuss recycling by their merchants as well as the <br /> public. <br /> The Committee scheduled another meeting for September 1 at 3:00 pm. <br /> The meeting adjourned at 5:30 .gym.. <br /> R.epectivly submitted, <br /> Catherine Lauren <br />
