Mi 1Fs, seconded by-Ms. Gibbs? low . <br /> to approve these f _ -school programs* . <br /> VOTE: Unan�mou- , <br /> 5, 6 school Activities Mr. Liberty -- Mr. Liberty <br /> expressed concern with the e rol.lment - f i `ures <br /> stating that there were 57 more enrollments than <br /> what school closed with in June. There were 3r� <br /> student transactions, i.e. , enrolled, roped out of <br /> town, in the last six days. He commended the <br /> teachers, guidance department, the reading <br /> coordinator, and -clerical staff for their support <br /> in getting the school year off to a great start. <br /> The new food program went well, however, <br /> three lunches may be necessary 'in the next three <br /> •r <br /> years. <br /> 1. <br /> At <br /> thl s point in the meeting, Dr. Petti asked Representative Tori Cahir <br /> tospeak on two issues -- one, school Choice; the other, teachers' <br /> deferred salaries. In summary, Rep. Cahir said that the funding <br /> mechanism for school Choice legislation is flawed ,and only 9 out of 351 � <br /> s in the Commonwealth have opted to get involved. He has co- <br /> sored legislation that would address these concerns which would P.0:" <br /> the law subject to state appropriation. Also, them would be no <br /> ransporta .ion costs for students opting to participate in school �r <br /> Choice. He strongly suggested that Mashpee not get involved in school . <br /> Choice until the funding flaws are rectified. ' <br /> r <br /> r <br /> 'Regarding the teachers' deferred salaries issue, Rep. Cahir stated' that F <br /> this piece of legislation has been poorly drafted. . lone of the ususal <br /> fi <br /> discussion and debate occurred in the Rouse and was attached to the <br /> FY92 budget, Town are automatically y invo ed unless they opt out � <br /> during a Town Meeting vote. Rep. Cahir co-sponsored legislation that. .. <br /> Would not necessitate a Town Meeting vote to enforce this law and <br /> Suggested at the o>ctober Town Meeting voters not opt in to teachers <br /> deferrment. However, all of this would be moot if his new legislation } <br /> Passes within- the next io days. Dr .
