posted as the advisory with the rental certificate were completed. Mr. Harrington is waiting for comments from
the Fire DepartmePt concerning the smoke and carbon monoxide detector section.
The Warrant Article was forwarded to the Selectmen's office prior to the February 12, 2018, deadline. The
newly created position is to help with the rental program and-would also be an assistant health agent position.
The rental program revenues will fund the position.
The Board and Mr. Harrington discussed the implementation and timeframes of the regulation. The regulation
would probably become effective July,l, 2018, and will also coincide with the new permitting software. Offering
an incentive of a free 6 months to sign up for the rental program after the July 1 deadline will hopefully produce
a good response.
4. Request for Board support Letter: Reduce the Use of Herbicides in Utility Fights-of-ways by
POC CA.
Glen Harrington stated that each year there is a yearly operations plan that is reviewed and approved for the
N STAID right of way, known as Fright of Way#345. Because the pesticide bureau, has pre-empted the Board of
Health, the Board of Health does not have the right to make regulations against the spraying of herbicides in
the rights of ways. The pesticide bureau has the strength and support of the regulation and the State
Legislature to protect and to eliminate or cut down the vegetation within the rights of ways. It beeps vegetation
from growing into the power lines and also leaves the area open for any potential wrong doing within the rights
of ways
In 2015 during the review of the yearly operational plan Mr. Harrington spore with Andy Marks, Director of the
Mashpee Water District. At that point Mr. [Darks offered NSTAR to pair for the balance of the manual cutting sq
that the spraying mould not be needed at all. Mr. Harrington would like to speak to Mr. Marks concerning the
outcome of that discussion. Mr. Harrington has not had the opportunity to review the Vegetation Management
Plan which mentions the, chemicals and herbicides that are used and if there have been any changes.
The Board would like more information before making a decision. The Board has concerns with the drinking
water and excess use of pesticides and herbicides. There are safety issues involved for those that are mowing
and working in the right of way, since the chemicals linger in the ehvironment for quite a while.
Mallory Langler made a motion that the Board of Health continue the discussion on the request for the Board's
Support Letter to the next Board of Health meeting scheduled on March 1, 2018. Laurel Almquist seconded the
motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
ADDITIONAL TOPIC
Nome.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Board of Health is scheduled for Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 7:00 PM.
