Janice Mills and Chair <br /> Carole DuniVn were absent; Board of Selectmen - Chair Jiro <br /> Vaccaro, Vice Chair Judy Mills, . Carol Jacobson, and George <br /> Costa.. Nancy Caffyn was absent, Finance Committee - Denise <br /> Sullivan and John Ferriday. Absent 'ere Chair Dan Goggin, <br /> Deirdre Greelish, Roger Dunivan. , and Tony Gallo. Also i <br /> attendance were Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lincoln A. DeMoura <br /> and Executive secretary Robert whritenour, Jr. Guest Speaker <br /> was Representative Thomas S. Cahir. <br /> The meeting was called to order by School Committee Vice Chair <br /> Ms. Gibbs at 7:10 . @ in the Conference Room at the Mashp ee <br /> Middle School. Discussion centered around the newly passed <br /> Education Reform Le islation+ and how it will affect the Town of <br /> ..: Mash ee, * Aft6r introducing ' Repr sentati� a Cahir Ms. Gibbs <br /> turned th6 meting over to him fat further discussion. He gave <br /> an overview of the act and its potential financial. impact. <br /> Although he agrees with the bill, Rep. Cahir voted against it <br /> because of the unfair funding components involved. The <br /> Education Reform act requires that each community spend $5, 500 <br /> per Tupil T•hilel ash ee current figure i nowno $4 , 889 per <br /> pupil. - Rep. Cahir informed the attendees that the FY94 figure <br /> f $382, 820 is what Mashpee will be required to come up with for <br /> additional education funding. However, with teacher health care <br /> deductions and debt service deduction that figure could be <br /> lowered to approximately $82, 000 . <br /> Rep. Cahir informed those present that a meeting was being Meld <br /> to discuss in detail the ramifications of the reform bill at <br /> Plymouth South High School on Monday, August 16 1993 at <br /> a.m. <br /> D . DeMoura outlined the highlights of the reform bill as <br /> presented by MASC, <br /> The subject of no smoking in the Davis .School surfaced. Mr. <br /> Vaccaro will generate a memo to all employees that there will be <br /> no smoking in the building, however, stnoking ont the grounds <br /> :. would be permissible. <br /> Mr. Vaccaro also brought the Committee up to date on the latest <br /> high school appraisal contract problems.
