i <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> JANUARY 27, 1994 <br /> Minutes <br /> .f <br /> r. <br /> Attendees: Chair Carole Dunivan, Maryanne Gibbs, and Dr. Eliz beth <br /> Pettie David Consalvi and Janice Mills were absent. Alo in <br /> attendance was Dr. Lincoln A. DeMoura. <br /> Other attendees were parents Anne McCormick, Steve Paxton, Maryanne <br /> MacDonald, LouAnne Johnson along with teachers Suzanne Craft and <br /> Christine Igo. <br /> Mrs. Dunivan called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. in the <br /> ,Library of the Mashpee Middle School Library. <br /> Dr. DeMoura stated the purpose of this meeting was to discuss and <br /> Griew a videotape entitled "Voices of Reform" dealing with � <br /> p t the. <br /> Common Core of Learning. The video touched on what should students <br /> learn, how should we teach, how should schools be run and what <br /> resources do schools need? After viewing the video, a roundtable <br /> discussion followed amongst the participants. Topics discussed <br /> included beginning Spanish classes at a younger age, math, reading. <br /> All agreed that study skills and cooperative learning/teaching are <br /> beneficial to students and teachers. <br /> The participants felt that technical schools need to have a <br /> concentrated effort placed on then to enhance their desirability <br /> for some students. <br /> Work/study programs were discussed and thought to be a very good <br /> concept <br /> After the discussion, Dar. DeMoura said this was a first step toward <br /> future meetings dealing with the Common Core of Learning. <br /> On a motion by Ms. Gibbs, seconded by Dr. Petti, the special <br /> meeting of the Mashpee School Committee adjourned at 8:25 pore <br /> VOTE: Unanimous R <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Marjorie R.
