i <br /> KASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE "' SPECIAL MEETING NOVEMBER 91 1994 PAGE 5 <br /> 6 .4 School Security- Middle School and coombs School Front <br /> Doors - Dr. DeMoura suggested putting this topic on hold for <br /> now and revisit it in the spring <br /> I I. 7 . 1 Kinder erten Entrance A - After discussions with kinder- <br /> New garten and Grade 1 teachers, Dr• DeMoura proposed changing <br /> Business the kindergarten entrance age from December 31 to August 31. <br /> This chance would require a policy change and would be <br /> effective September 1996. This issue will be pl-aced on the <br /> December agenda for a Committee vote. <br /> .2 Arts Assessment - Dr. DeMoura discussed the National. <br /> Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) which, for the <br /> past 25 years, has served as a► unique resource, .providing <br /> educators with reliable information about what American <br /> students know and can do in key subject areas. In February, <br /> 1995, NAEP will be field testing new materials planned for <br /> the 1996 assessments in mathematics, science, and the arts. <br /> Schools have been preselected to participate in either arts <br /> or math and science. After discussion, Dr. DeMoura <br /> recommended participation in NAEP. <br /> Motion made by Dr. Pe i , seconded by Mr. Paxton, to <br /> participate in NAEP. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> e 3 Im act Aid Grant - Dr. DeMoura explained this is an annual <br /> report, now entitled "Title VIII" , whereby the Federal <br /> Government provides financial aid to school systems having <br /> children whose parents either work on federal property or <br /> are federal employees. This chant needs Committee approval <br /> to submit the application. <br /> Motion made by Dr. Pett i, seconded by Mrs. mills, to approve <br /> the submission of the Title VIII application as requested. <br /> VOTE: unanimous <br /> viii, 8. 1 Sub-Committee Repoats <br /> Committee <br /> Reports 81.1 .1 Negotiations - To be discussed in executive session. <br /> 8. 1.2 Hi h School Committee- - Dr. Petti reported that the <br /> committee met on November 7 to discuss the high school ogre <br /> curriculum. Alsor she and Dr. DeMoura attended a School-to- <br /> Work conference sponsored by the Regional Employment Board* <br /> 8.2 External Re arts <br /> 8.2.1 Cape Cod Collaborative - Mr. Consalvi was absent this <br /> evening- thus no report this evenifige <br /> 8.2 .2 Leisure Services Nis. Gibbs reported that the by- <br /> laws are being rewritten. <br /> r <br />
