The swan was severely injured. In concern, Mr.
Kleecamp stated this is very alarming and the person responsible for this action should be held
accountable. Mr. Kleecamp indicated a member of the Fall River Bass Anglers is responsible for this
action, and it is hopeful this incident would not negatively impact future bass tournaments on the lake.
David Sampson, Chairman of the Sandwich Board of Selectmen also spoke on this matter. Mr.
Sampson indicated he is very concerned and disappointed with respect to the deliberate action. Mr.
Sampson is an abutter of Mashpee-Wakeby. Incidents such as this call the question to the level of
disrespect for the lake on the part of the fishing groups operating at high rates of speed. Often animals
get entangled in the fishing gear, and fishing debris is left along the shoreline and on private properties.
Mr. Sampson recommended the Town consider additional policing during tournament events.
