Float - Presentation of Certificates - These certi- <br /> Iew ficates were presented earlier in the meeting. <br /> Business <br /> 7 , 2 Horne Instruction - Policy Revision - Dr. DeMoura discussed <br /> some parental concerns over home visits and suggested <br /> offering other options to parents such as having a mutually- <br /> greed upon person write 'a report of the home instruction <br /> program. The results of standardized tests could also b <br /> used to assess the program. The family would pay the <br /> testing costs if the school system is not conducting the <br /> test that year. Other options would be. available if <br /> approved by the school conunittee and the parent( s) . This <br /> policy revision will be voted on at the February meeting. <br /> 7 . 3 Revised Science .Curriculum- .- Dr,, DeMoura introduced Middle <br /> School- science teacher Suzanne Avtges who gave a <br /> presentation the revised science curriculum. In her <br /> discussion, Ms. Avtges said the science curriculum commitee <br /> has been review the existing science curriculum and <br /> developing strategies that would integrate the present <br /> program with PALMS Partnership Advancing Learning in Math <br /> and Science) . PALMS is the new curriculum frameworks for <br /> science and math and the state science frameworks s will now <br /> be included within our local curriculum. The curriculum is <br /> broken down into four categories: inquiry, science content <br /> areas, technology, and science and human affairs. . The <br /> science content areas include physical science, earth <br /> science, life science and the human body. The current <br /> textbook series lacks the philosophies desired, <br /> 7 .4 Textbook Adoption - MacMillan/McGraw-Hill, Science Series <br /> K-8 - During her discussion, as noted above, Ms. Avtges said <br /> the MacMillan/McGraw-Hill textbook series follows along the <br /> same philosophies as stated above. <br /> Dr. DeMoura said the school department is unable to purchase <br /> the entire program at this point. However, he recommended <br /> purchasing teacher materials for grades 1-7 and student <br /> texts for grades 3-6 now. In next year's budget, money will <br /> be allocated for grades kindergarten, 7 and 8 and student <br /> texts for grades 1 and 2 . <br /> Motion made by Mr. Consalvi, seconded by Dr. Petti, to adopt <br /> the MacMillan/McGraw Hill science Series as recommended <br /> above by the Superintendent* <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br />
