MASHP E SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 51 1994 PAGE 8 <br /> 8 .2 . 3. 1 Addition - Dr. Petti said that a final <br /> meeting has not been scheduled as yet. <br /> 8.2 . 3 .2 High School. - Dr. DeMoura reported that the <br /> High School Building Committee made a recommendation <br /> for an architect to the Board of Selectmen on Januar <br /> 3rd. <br /> 8.2 .4 Legislation - Due to Mrs. Mills' election as Vice <br /> President of the Legislative Committee, she asked another <br /> member to replace her on this sub-committee. Dr. Petti <br /> volunteered her services to do so.. <br /> .2 .5 safe Transportation Task Force - Ms. Gibbs said the <br /> next meeting is scheduled in March. <br /> ix. Mrs. Dunivan opened the discussion regarding the architect <br /> Other recommendation made by the High school, Building Committee to <br /> the Board of Selectmen. she said the selectmen have not <br /> voted to approve any architect at this point in time and <br /> therefore, suggested the School Committee come up with a <br /> secondary or contingency plan should the high school not be <br /> open by September 1996. she asked, "Where will we go?" And, <br /> "Why the wait?" "Why no architect?" She stated that the <br /> Coombs school and the Middle school are not large enough to <br /> house 1,680 students. Dr. DeMoura responded that the only <br /> answer should the high school not be ready is to hold double <br /> sessions. <br /> Dr. Petti placed the onus on the Board of Selectmen asking, <br /> "Why can't the Board of Selectmen gale a decision? They <br /> have known all along than we needed this school. why wasn't <br /> this design review done in October?"' With accolades to the <br /> School Building Committee and the Clerk of the works for the <br /> wonderful job that they did for the' new addition on the <br /> Middle school as well as turning ,back $300,888, Dr. Petti <br /> went on record saying, "so we do our work, don't wel " lairs. <br /> Dunivan responsed saying, "Yes, we do. our children will <br /> have school no matter what, whether or not we have to go <br /> double sessions, but it's now up to. the people in the Town <br /> to get on the Board of Selectmen and say 'Hey, this school <br /> has to be open by September of 19961 " <br /> " <br /> Mr. Consalvi reiterated that the School Department will <br /> provide an education for the children of Mspee but also <br /> asked "Why is the Board of Selectmen dragging its feet? <br /> Mrs. Dunivan stressed that children will be attending school <br /> even if double sessions -are needed, however, she encouraged <br /> the parents of the town to attendSelectmen's meetings and <br /> ask questions as to why decisions have not been made by the <br />
