t MAEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS .. SPECIAL JOINT MEETING BETWEEN THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE AND THE PTO FEBRUARY , 1995 Minutes es Attendees: School Committee - Dr. Elizabeth Petti, Stephen Paxton and David Conalvi. Chair Maryanne Gibbs and Janice Mills were unable to attend this evenin fs meeting. Administration - Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lincoln A. DeMoura. PTO Members - Pain Stone, Sheryl Holmes, Terrie Cook, Arden Cadrin, Widdy Lander, Rose Regan, Joanne Davis, Diary O'Brien, Maryanne Macdonald, Ellen Davis, Maureen Colescott, Nick Feldman and Robert Tippo Dr. Petti called the joint meeting to order at 7 :06 p.m. in the Middle School Library. She turned the meeting over to Dr. DeMoura who discussed the FY96 F96school budget. Dir. DeMoura reviewed the attached handouts with the Committee and PTO explaining each line item. He explained that in order to preach the Finance Committee's recommended FY96 school budget figure of $6,607,975, al l new teaching positions would have to be eliminated thus resulting in larder class sizes. i The PTO members stressed the meed that in order to have quality. -education, small..--class sizes should be a top priority .-for the Committee to consider. . Y DMus' planned the -}Chapter I replacement model -- where-there-would-be two--replacement mode.s next year to = en ra e ' one extra teacher in Grade 2 . i i Also, the "Troops to Teachers" concept, where 50 of first-yea ` salary is paid by the government and the percentage decreases for five years, not to exceed 0,000, was explained as a possible cost-savings idea. This teacher would be a retired military person and may be placed in a Grade 6 claBsroom. Mr. Consalvi mentioned the Medicaid reimbursement of $100, 000 would need a town meeting vote in order to transfer Medicaid reimbursement for special ed uation services to the school budgets
