MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> JANUARY 19, 1.995 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: School Committee ittee - Chair Maryanne Gibbs, Janice <br /> Mills, Dr. Elizabeth Petti, David Consal_vi, and <br /> Stephen Paxton. <br /> Administration - Superintendent Dr* Lincoln A. <br /> DeMoura. <br /> Meeting The special meeting was called order by Ms. Gibbs <br /> Called to at 7 : 03 p.m. in the Office of the Superintendent. <br /> Order <br /> Ms. Gibbs turned the meeting over to Dr, DeMoura <br /> who discussed in detail the latest update to the <br /> FY96 budget. He announced that on January 10, 1995, <br /> the Finance- Committee- voted on the School <br /> Department's operating budget figure of $6,607,975, <br /> which is an increase of $500, 344 over the FY95 <br /> budget. <br /> In order to comply with the $6,607 ,975 figure, Dr. <br /> DeMoura asked the Committee to consider the <br /> following: <br /> . Negotiated increases $228, 517 <br /> Special education expense increase $107 , 239 <br /> High School Principal $ 67 ,600 <br /> Elimination of study periods in 16,287 <br /> grades 7 and <br /> Alternative Education After-School. $ 18, 000 <br /> program <br /> . .5 secretaries 18r2OO <br /> . Speech Therapist $ 40, 000 <br /> . Supplies $ 4 ,740 <br /> Dr. DeMoura also discussed a bus transportation <br /> recommendation where Grade 4 students would take the <br /> same bus as the Grades 5-8 students, thus decreasing <br /> the number of buses by either 2 or possibly 3 and <br /> cutting transportation costs by between $58,000- <br /> 88,000 <br /> ,00 - <br /> ,000 yearly. Monies saved would be used for <br /> Supplies, instructional materials and technology. <br /> In his explanation, Dra DeMoura said if the current <br /> bus schedules remain next year, there will be an <br /> increase in transportation costs, There are <br /> currently three tiers of bussing: the first, <br />
