MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE - REGULAR MEETING - MARCID 5, 1997 PAGE <br /> 7.3 FY97 Monthly Budget review - Dr. DeMoura said he received a <br /> telephone call from Colonial Gas and was asked "Who's going to pay the <br /> $42,000 bill for gas at the high school Right now, that responsibility is <br /> unknown. Mrs. Lynch suggested not paying that bill until the School <br /> Committee meets with the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee. <br /> Also, she suggested notifying the Executive Secretary in writing of this <br /> action. This issue will be discussed between the School Committee and <br /> Finance Committee on March 25, 1997. <br /> Ms. Macdonald questioned the teacher buyback lime item. Dr. L eMoura <br /> said that money is budgeted for teachers eligible to retire as well as the <br /> superintendent's contract allows him to buy back two weeks of vacation. <br /> Mrs. Lynch suggested having a separate lime item for the <br /> superintendent's buy back. <br /> Ms. Macdonald asked, "Hover are things looking for spring sports?" r. <br /> eMoura said $23,390 is needed for the remainder of the school year. <br /> This figure included track uniforms and tennis shirts. <br /> Mrs. Cook asked why is the high school sports practicing in inclement <br /> weather at the Quashnet Schools? Athletic Director Ron Bock answered <br /> that three teams could practice during rainy clays, leaving the other two <br /> or three teams may need to go over to the Quashnet Byrn or cancel their <br /> sessions in order to be equitable. Mrs. lulls felt that was not fair. she <br /> said the Quashnet Schoolsbelong to the K-6 kids. <br /> r. Moura informed the Committee that Stone will no longer b <br /> responsible for the interior ofthe high i school effective March 15 and the <br /> exterior as of April 15, 1997. <br /> More discussion followed on paying for the unfinished fields at the high <br /> school and the responsibility should be added to the lawsuit against <br /> Stone. Dr. DeMoura said the landscape contractor gave the school <br /> department a $12,000 credit from January 1 June 1, 1997. <br /> 7.4 Enrollments - Dr. DeMoura said total enrollments in ps-Grade 12 <br /> are 1,854. Mrs. Cook noted an unusual drop of 43 students from <br /> September to March with 32 students loner in the elementary grades. <br /> Ms. Macdonald asked to have the whereabouts of this children <br /> investigated.
