MASHPEE SCHOOL C MMI' 'TEE <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> APRIL 9, 1997 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Cha=* an Stephen Paxton, Kathleen Lynch, Theresa Cook, <br /> Janice Mills, and Maryanne Macdonald. Also in attendance was <br /> Supe xtendent of Schools Dr. Lincoln A. I eMoura. <br /> The special meeting was called to order by Mr. Paxton at :1 o a.m. in the <br /> High School Conference Hoorn E-103. <br /> Mr. Paxton began the meeting stating the purpose was to determine ars <br /> F98FY98 budget figure for Tow. Meeting. Mrs. Lynch suggested beginning <br /> at $9,700,000. Mrs. Mills agreed and suggested begi-nning at that figure <br /> and working it upwards in $100,000 increments reaching $10,000,000 <br /> thea give back to the administration for their input. <br /> Discussion followed on special education costs for this year and how <br /> they compare to last year's costs. <br /> Mr. Paxton asked what reeds to be eliminated from the $10500,000 <br /> budget to bring down to $9,700,000. One area, Dr. DeMoura said, <br /> could be most of the pre-school transportation routes. This elimination <br /> would be approximately $16,816. Mrs. Lynch asked Dr. I eMoura to <br /> send a letter home to parents as soca as possible informing em of this <br /> charge. This charge would affect about -12 children effective <br /> September, 1997 and would apply to all regular students. <br /> Motion crude by Mrs. Mills. to send this letter home to parents informing <br /> theca of this charge in transportation. Motion was seconded by Mrs. <br /> Lynch. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Discussion followed on level funding. Mrs. Lynch stated that she <br /> preferred to see level funding in all department rather than eliminate <br /> programs. <br /> Discussion thea focused on technology. Mrs. Mills suggested ways in <br /> which to nology could be used with the Internet, i.e., Latin instruction. <br /> In order to reach the $9,700,000 figure, a suggestion was made to chart <br /> a % decrease in each function as shown below: <br />
