Lincoln DeMoura <br /> Meeting convened at 7:08 p.m. <br /> Kathy Lynch announced some upcoming meetings: <br /> - July 9 pint meeting with the Board ofSelectmen regarding education funding 7:00 p.r . Quashnet cafeteria <br /> -Tuesday, June 3'd 12:15 meeting with Linda Warren re: food service financial information <br /> -Wednesday,June 'regularly scheduled School Committee meeting <br /> -Thursday.dune volunteer brunch. <br /> -Thursday June 5h7-.00 Falmouth High awards night <br /> - Saturday June 7' 6:30 Falmouth High graduation. <br /> Kathy Lynch reviewed letters the Committee received regarding the budget: <br /> -From Um*t C. requesting the half time secretary at the Valley school be upgraded to full time, school year and <br /> a half time person be added to the River school. <br /> From Mr. Persico regarding the band and instrumental lessons for grades -6. Eliminating lessons is not a <br /> wise idea. <br /> -From mss. Kingsley, librarian at the Coombs school regarding the library positions. <br /> -�&s. Sanford regarding the library position. <br /> From Principal Doyle regarding secretarial position, intercom system and computer lab. <br /> (Mrs. Doyle could not attend this meeting,Mrs. Bankston attended in her place. <br /> -From Dr. DeMoura to the Committee. The request for n additional kindergarten position was omitted from <br /> � g <br /> the list approved at the last meeting. He is seeing authority to hire an additional teacher-when enrollments <br /> exceed 175 students. Finds for this position are in the budget. <br /> FOAL DEAR 1998 BUDGET PRESENTATION <br /> Dr. DeMoura gave a brief overview of the budget process. The $9.7 million recommended by the Board of <br /> Selectmen was unacceptable to the School Committee and S280,000 was added to fund full day kindergarten, <br /> high school sports, one school bus, high school activities and cum*culum chairpersons, park time specialist. <br /> The budget presented tonight has all the previously stated reductions except for those stated above. He has <br /> some areas of concern. We do not yet have a status report for a teacher ori_extended sick leave, which is not i . <br /> the budget and the elementary health teacher position which is funded by a grant that we have not yet received <br /> notice we will be receiving next year. Those are two positions not included in this budget for$75,000. <br /> Janice Mills is ofthe opinion that the $10,300,000 budget can be funded her $9,980,000. Each year we <br /> deliberately over-fund the special education budget. If we run short we have always had an agreement with <br /> Finance Co ttee to approach them for an emergency special education expense. <br /> Dr. DeMoura responded that we do have a balance this year but utility savings from a mild winter and special <br /> help from the high school rding committee account for that balance. <br /> Grace Day, Special Education Director, said here is a balance of S ,000 in the transportation account, but the <br /> 1 <br />
